We asked graduating English majors to tell us a bit about their plans for the future. Here are some responses. If you’d like to answer the question “What are you doing after graduation?” write to us at for.english@rutgers.edu.
Rosangela Briscese:
“I will begin at UT-Austin in September, where I will be pursuing an MSIS (essentially Library & Information Science degree) with a specialization in Book Preservation Administration.”
Brian W. Clopp
“Auditioning for acting (http://www.jerseyactor.com if by fate someone would like to cast me or could help me meet an agent or casting director), and screenwriting in my spare time. I’m employed by the Princeton Review, and may work abroad for a brief while (Egypt or Abu Dabi). Over summer I may volunteer to help start a youth center in Moldova. Next year, I will continue to audition and may apply to grad school in pursuit of an MFA.”
Samm Deighan:
“I am moving to Boston in the beginning of June, going to Paris for two weeks, and starting Tufts University in the fall. I will be attending their Masters program in the Drama school, with plans to continue into the PhD program.”
Kenchetta Dudley:
“I am enrolled in the 5-year program at the GSE, and will start student teaching in fall 2005 in Woodbridge Township School District. After the final year, I plan to apply to teaching jobs across New Jersey, or maybe I will land a job in my hometown of Woodbridge New Jersey. In the future I would like to teach high school English.”
Adrienne Fields:
“After graduation I am looking forward to working for a couple of years in order to gain experience in my field. Then I hope to return to Rutgers to receive a master's degree in Library Science.”
Pamela Kavalam:
“In the fall I'll be pursuing a Master's in Higher Education Administration at New York University's Steinhardt School (alongside two Rutgers College '05 grads!) and working at the Office of International Students and Scholars. One of the biggest influences on my decision to attend graduate school was English professor and Dean of Humanities, Barry Qualls.”
Raven Orr:
"My plans after graduation are to go on vacation, which I will use to visit loved ones and relax. I will begin my career in June as a analyst for Johnson & Johnson. I will attend graduate school for either business or English on a part- time basis in the fall of 2007.”
Douglas Piccinnini:
“In the months following graduation, I plan to hang out in old New Brunswick for a while, and then I am off to Italia to teach English for a year. In my year out, I would like to catch up on all the reading that I wish I had time for as a Rutgers Undergrad. Upon my return to the states, I am looking forward to entering a MFA program in Creative Writing. Also, this summer a solo show of my art work is being presented by Albus Cavus in downtown New Brunswick.”
Anik Sood:
“Upon graduation I plan to go directly to Cardozo Law School, hopefully pursuing a double-concentration in intellectual property and corporate governance. My ultimate goal is to found and run an entertainment representation and public relations firm.”
Justin Woo:
“Right now, I'm playing life by ear - I have a job in Los Angeles as a mentor / chaperone at the US Performing Arts Camp at UCLA for the summer. The camp offers courses in acting, animation, dance and other performing arts fields. I'll most likely be working with kids in the hip-hop theatre realm, because of my slam poetry experience. After that, I want to work as an interdisciplinary performing artist, bringing together aspects of poetry, theatre, and dance in order to create accessible, yet challenging political art pieces.”
