VIA TRAIN (New Jersey Transit and/or Amtrak)

New Jersey Transit's Northeast Corridor line and Amtrak's regional line both stop in New Brunswick. From New York City, take New Jersey Transit and/or Amtrak to the New Brunswick train station. From Philadelphia, take the R7 SEPTA line to Trenton, NJ and then take New Jersey Transit to New Brunswick. The New Brunswick train station is approximately one hour from New York City and Philadelphia. From southern New Jersey, take the RiverLine to Trenton, NJ and then take New Jersey Transit to New Brunswick. For current train schedules, visit New Jersey Transit, Amtrak, SEPTA, and RiverLine.

BY TAXI (from the New Brunswick train station)

A taxi stand is located at the New Brunswick station near the Albany Street entrance.

WALKING DIRECTIONS (from the New Brunswick train station)

The Alexander Library is within 15 minutes walking distance of the station. Exit at the north
end of the train platform onto George Street and turn left. Walk half a block to Somerset Street and turn left. Walk one block to George Street and turn right. Walk approximately a third of a mile, and the Alexander Library will be on your right immediately after you cross Senior Street.

Travel Advisory

The NJ Department of Transportation's (NJDOT) construction activities associated with the Route 18 Reconstruction project have begun in the New Brunswick area. As a result, drivers are likely to experience delays, traffic pattern changes and possible lane and road closures when traveling through the area. Garden State Parkway Southbound
Turn off at Exit 129 for the New Jersey Turnpike and head south. Turn off Exit 9, bear right after the tollbooths and follow signs for "Route 18 North - New Brunswick." Stay to the left to continue on Route 18 North. Proceed along on Route 18 North past the two exits for Route 27 and take the exit marked "George Street-Rutgers University" (approximately 2.6 miles from Turnpike). At the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto George Street. Continue along George Street and bear left at the jug handle onto Huntington Street. Continue along Huntington Street for one block. Turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue. The Alexander Library will be on the left hand side.

Garden State Parkway Northbound
Turn off at Exit 105 and follow signs for Route 18 North. After approximately 24 miles, you will pass the entrance for the New Jersey Turnpike. Continue on Route 18 North. Proceed along Route 18 North past the two exits for Route 27 and take the exit marked "George Street-Rutgers University" (approximately 2.6 miles from the Turnpike). Take the next exit, marked George Street Rutgers University (approximately 2.6 miles from the Turnpike). At the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto George Street. Continue along George Street and bear left at the jug handle onto Huntington Street. Continue along Huntington Street for one block. Turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue. The Alexander Library will be on the left hand side.

Interstate 287
Turn off at Exit 9 "River Road, Bound Brook, Highland Park." Proceed East on River Road toward Highland Park. Make a right onto Route 18 South (exit after the traffic light at Landing Lane). Cross the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. Stay in the right lane and take the exit which is marked "George Street - Rutgers University, New Brunswick, Route 27." Turn right at the first traffic light onto Huntington Street. Continue along Huntington Street for one block. At the traffic light, turn left on College Avenue. The Alexander Library will be on the left hand side.

New Jersey Turnpike

US Route 1
Turn off at exit marked "Route 18 North – New Brunswick." Proceed along Route 18 North, past the two exits for Route 27 and take the exit, marked "George Street – Rutgers University" (approximately 2.4 miles from Route 1). At the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto George Street. Continue along George Street nd bear left at the jug handle onto Huntington Street. Continue along Huntington Street for one block. Turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue. The Alexander Library will be on the left hand side.
