Every faculty office is equipped with a networked Dell OptiPlex system, and configured with the following software:

    • Word Processing: MS Word, WordPerfect
    • Spreadsheet: MS Excel
    • Multimedia/Graphics: MS PowerPoint
    • Database: MS Access
    • Web Browsers: IE 6, Netscape 7.x
    • Email Client(s): Firefox, Netscape Messenger, MS Outlook
    • Utilities: Acrobat Reader for reading pdf files, WinRar for extracting zipped files and SSH for secure FTP tasks

Email

Every user is required to have a NetID. Your NetID is setup by RCI and gives you valuable access to many tools to enhance your computing efforts. To setup a NetID, please visit the RCI Page. Once your NetID is setup, we can set up your email account access with an email client (i.e., MS Outlook, Netscape Messenger, Mozilla Firefox).

Networking

A Novell account is available to everyone and created for all new faculty and staff upon their arrival. This account grants you access to the English server and to many technical resources throughout the department. To obtain a Novell account, please contact the Technical Support Office at (732) 932-1148 or (732) 932-8539.

Login Procedures: Each user must enter their Novell “username” and “password” in order to gain access to network resources. If you forget your Novell password, contact Technical Support to have your password reset.

Network Drives: After a successful login, the following network drives are available for data storage (no programs, images, video and audio):

H: Personal Storage (for storing personal files)
S: Temporary Storage (temporary sharing of files)
W: Shared storage (group collaboration/sharing of files)

We strongly encourage using the network to save your files. All network drives (except the S: drive) are backed up daily.

For complete resource information, please download the Information Technology Orientation document.
