01   MW7   CAC    17171    BUCKLEY  MU-208

In this course we will explore the evolution of British and continental European drama from the 1660s through the French Revolution, looking particularly at the way changes in dramatic literature reflect and shape the transition to modern society. This course will be taught in an emphatically interdisciplinary fashion, incorporating developments in politics, court spectacle, music, the visual arts, popular entertainment, urban development, and everyday life in addition to drama. Dramatic authors may include Beaumarchais, Behn, Etherege, Gay, Goldoni, Lillo, Marivaux, Molière, Racine, Schiller, Sheridan, and Wycherley.
