THIS COURSE SAME AS 04:567:472:01

Most journalism is written for today; literary journalism is written to last. In this class, you will read and discuss classics of non-fiction reportage and analysis that exhibit journalism at its finest –exciting, provocative, funny, illuminating, and enduring. Through them we’ll also develop a deeper appreciation of American society and culture in the 20th century. These are the books that made many of today’s best writers want to become journalists in the first place. Authors include George Orwell, James Baldwin, Janet Malcolm, Saul Bellow, and Tom Wolfe.
