We will study the theory and practice of comedy, with special attention to jokes and the humor of daily life. In the literature we read, we will consider the topics of jokes, satire, farce, tragic farce, nonsense, and parody. The purpose of the course is to develop a discourse about comedy, centering on the theme of comedy high and low. Most of the reading will be plays. Four feature-length films will be shown.
