This introduction to Shakespeare is an interactive synchronous course, taught live through Zoom. Students enrolling will need to rely on a strong internet connection and will want reliable video to enjoy full access and participation. Enrollment will be fairly small, assuring a high level of participation and group discussion. Attention will be given to Shakespeare’s context, and especially to film and stage interpretation of the plays. We will begin by studying Shakespeare’s Sonnets, and move to study some of his greatest plays, including Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth, and The Tempest.

Requirements: Short assignments, three papers, two quizzes and a final essay exam. Attendance is mandatory.
