The Literatures of the Americas
This course offers a survey of contemporary literature from the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean, including several works originally published in Spanish. Our readings will concentrate on recent novels and short stories from the Americas whose imagined geographies traverse the boundaries of nation and region. Authors studied may include Roberto Bolaño, Toni Morrison, Junot Díaz, Rita Indiana, Cormac McCarthy, Cristina Rivera Garza, Francisco Goldman, Edwidge Danticat, Daniel Alarcón, Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Mayra Santos-Febres, Samantha Schweblin, and Daniel Loedel.
