The Feminist Studies Group discusses historical and contemporary theories, critiques, and manifestations of gender roles in literature and culture. This group aims to address multiple feminisms, with an emphasis on intersections between gender, race, class, and sexuality. In addition to reading and discussing recent feminist criticism, we hope to workshop chapters and articles by graduate students and visiting scholars whose work focuses on women's writing or feminist concerns; to consider what "feminist scholarship" means, or might come to mean, in the academy today; and to strategize about how our academic work might intersect with feminist political activism and cultural change.
