Kiran Desai is an Indian author who was raised in India, England, and the United States. She is the author of Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard and The Inheritance of Loss, which won the Man Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. At 36, Desai was the youngest woman to ever win the Man Booker Award. Her work has been praised by many well-established writers, including Salman Rushdie, who included her work in his anthology, The Vintage Book of Indian Writing: 1947-1997. Desai is the daughter of the novelist, Anita Desai, whose own work was short listed for the Booker Award.
