Committee on Bias Awareness and Prevention
The Committee for Bias Awareness and Prevention was formed by the English Department in 2012. It exists to transform and enhance the culture of the department as a community dedicated to equality and justice. The Committee believes that an English department in a public institution should be a model for how individuals and communities can relate to one another. We pledge to serve as a resource for faculty and students to address and remedy systemic and cultural inequalities, bias, and discrimination on the basis of gender, race, class, sexuality and ability. We make ourselves available for individual and collective conversations about transformative pedagogies, practices, and ways to address events of concern in the larger university, community, and nation.
